Bald eagles, who mate for life, return year after year to several nests in the community. Residents and guests witness the cycle of nesting, nurturing the hatchlings, teaching the
young to fly and hunt. Great Blue Herons, cormorants, belted kingfishers, and sanderlings entertain us.
Semiahmoo peninsula is beneath the "North American Flyway", the superhighway of migratory birds. A vast, colorful and often cheerily noisy array of ducks and geese rest and feed on our saltwater bays during their spring and autumn migrations.
Nature Abounds
Miles of paved and gravel trails for walking, jogging, and bicycling hug the shoreline then gradually rise to meet ancient evergreens in the wooded uplands. Scattered rustic benches welcome us to rest or reflect along the wooded Drayton Hillside trail. One travel magazine writer quipped that he saw "more deer than people" on his early morning bike ride. Sedentary black-tailed deer are often seen grazing on wild strawberries, blackberries, mushrooms and fairways!
In addition to free food like wild berries, mushrooms, clams, crab, salmon, Washington has no state income tax...what's not to like?!
